Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane Adult Religious Education class on Unitarian Universalist Heritage.
Monday nights. 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Cummings Room. Sept 19, Sept 26, Oct 3, 10, 17, 31, and Nov 7. No class on October 24 (I will be in London)

βIt is a curious error to suppose that you can carry on effectively a great liberal tradition while remaining ignorant or almost ignorant, of the beliefs and achievements of the people who have handed that tradition over to you.ββ Harry Meserve
My goal is to provide a learning community similar to what one might find in a graduate level seminar to explore, question, and grow in understanding about what makes us a community. The assumption is that all participants have some familiarity with the background and at a minimum have read a summary book such as A Chosen Faith: An Introduction to Unitarian Universalism by John A. Buehrens and Forrest Church. Participants will need access to the Internet. (If your connection is slow, we can provide videos on a CD). Participants will be expected to make a commitment to read generally short selected materials and watch videos prior to class. In class we will take turns challenging ourselves, each other, and the material. Do not expect to find a single answer! Be prepared to embrace ambiguity! After all we are talking about Unitarian Universalist heritage.
My hope is to provide a range of activities that will stimulate our thinking. For most sessions this will include an introduction, background information, short readings of original material, information about one or two people, and some questions to think about. I have selected materials and activities from a range of sources. A reference and resources page will identify these sources and provide links to many of them.
NOTE As of September 19, the course website is generally stable but always subject to change.
